This past weekend we ventured South to the big city of San Francisco, CA. The purpose of our trip was to attend an 80th birthday party for Matt's aunt and uncle. We figured we'd squeeze in some additional fun while we were down there. To start with the weather was absolutely fabulous, considering it is raining and fall in Seattle already! The plane landed and we began our trek towards the rental car, all 3 bags, 2 backpacks, 1 stroller and 1 car seat in tow!

Next it was off to find our hotel! This was the first time I had used Priceline and needless to say, I was quite proud and impressed with myself. It was quite a deal for the Palo Alto Westin! The bellman helped deliver the bags to our room along with this treat for Addi.

Upon arriving at the hotel, we received a call from Matt's brother. He and his two children were supposed to meet us down there for the party. They had missed their flight, but fortunately were able to get onto another flight and still make it time for a family dinner. Well, sorta. He and the children were on a plane to San Jose and their luggage was in route to San Francisco. So Matt, Addi and I hopped in the car and headed toward San Francisco to pick up the baggage (Matt's uncle went to San Jose to pick up the people :) As we entered the freeway leaving the airport, we spotted this HUGE plume of smoke and HUGE flames. Matt knew immediately that it was some sort of gas fire. At this time we had no idea what had exploded. The freeway closed just minutes after we went through.

We went to Matt's aunts house for dinner, where she boards some horses. The kids were super excited to see the owners drive up to exercise the horses. The kids got to give them some treats!

Friday, we ran some errands to get ready for the party. The kids, Matt and Erik were busy playing at their Aunts house, so I decided to go run some errands in peace! Well, I got lost and my GPS had no reception, so I ended up driving about an hour and a half before I returned. I had not visited ONE of the stops on my list! I had just gone for a REALLY, long car ride, but it was beautiful and quiet! So I picked up Matt and Addi and asked that they drive me to my errands (Costco and Office Depot) in hopes that Addi would nap in the car and I wouldn't get lost. That night we had lovely BBQ at Matt's cousins house.

Saturday, the kids, Matt, his brother and myself trekked into the city for a few hours of adventure. We cruised around the waterfront before stopping off at Ghirardelli Square for some lunch and to catch the Trolley Car. The Trolley Car ride quite an adventure. About 2 or 3 stops into the ride, there was a HUGE bang. It was as though a car had collided with the Trolley car. Matt's niece hit her head and I have a huge bruise on my leg from the impact. Addi thought it was part of the ride. This ride took so long that we decided to forgo the Trolley Car ride back to the pier and just hail a cab instead for the sake of time. We couldn't be late for the party!

Then it was off to the party! It was fabulous! Matt's cousins did a wonderful job of putting it all together - center pieces, a live band and dance floor, 3 course plated meal, bar..basically the works. In fact, Matt's niece said (while waiting for her dinner to be served) "If Aunt P has birthday parties like this, I'm going to come every year. Or at least every year she is alive!"

Sunday, Matt's family met at his Aunt & Uncles country club for breakfast! I was so nice to eat in the sunshine on the patio. When breakfast was finished the kids got to go to the putting green with Matt's Aunt.

Monday is the day we were leaving to come home. We made one last stop to visit the Stanford University campus, as our hotel was directly across the street. Addi thought it was super fun to visit "her college".

This year was the first year that we took Addi to actually see the Blue Angels. A huge thank you to the Myers Family for inviting us out on their boat. Even though the weather wasn't "beautiful" it was warm and a lot of fun!

My CRAZY Challenge

I have done some crazy things in my life, but this is by far the CRAZIEST. This week I committed (and when I mean committed...I mean I joined a team, I paid my money, and I bought my shoes) to running a half marathon on June 26th 2010 in Seattle. Yes, the girl with asthma that could never participate in running sports or even stand in the cold at a bus stop signed up to run (or walk however I can make it) 13.1 miles straight. So this is how it works...I joined the team during week 7 of a 21 week training plan. What this means is that Tuesday (the first "real" training day) was a 60 minute run! Uggg....considering I hadn't run more than 2 consecutive miles ever, I lost sleep over this one day goal. Today, wasn't as bad (according to the training schedule) it was "only" a 45 minute run. Considering I can barely walk today and my husband and daughter are referring to me as Waddles, the Penguin, I thought that too to be a hefty goal. Tomorrow, "Strides" the professional running term for sprints, will be included in yet another 60 minute run. Saturday will be my first team run where I will meet the coaches and run for yet another 60 minutes!

MEET NEW FRIENDS BUT KEEP THE OLD ONES....who have I begun this adventurous journey with you ask? Well, thank the lucky stars, I have reconnected (through Addi & Hillary, her 4 year old) with a friend from junior high/high school who I used to do Girl Scouts with. She is a clinical research professional for Seattle Children's Hospital and an advocate for Pediatric Cancer. She heads the guild "SCORE - Seattle Children's Oncology Research Enterprise". She committed to the half marathon as an example for others in her field. I've been following her trials and tribulations as she began her training in February. This week, I decided, if she can do it SO CAN I! I get up at 4:45 AM and meet my friend in the dark to start our run. I don't have enough hours in my day, so I had to add some by sacrificing some sleep. This also enables me to run and be home in time for Matt to leave for work, when necessary. I am thankful for DST this past weekend. That has helped A LOT!

Slippery Fish

Addi has been singing a song she learned at school lately...it goes something like this "slippery fish, slippery fish...swimming in the waaaaaater."

This was her 6th swimming lesson this summer and she informed Ms. Angela (the teacher) that today she only needs one floaty. This is one brave, slippery fish!

Recently, playing with Matt and I hasn't been good enough for Addi. She says she needs a "smaller" person to play with her. So we invited her friend Brooke over for a playdate (and so we could visit with her parents). The girls had so much fun playing with every toy in the house! For dinner that night they made their own pizzas. Brooke wasn't too sure she should actually eat the pizza she made, but all in all it was a very fun night....with lots of clean up in the morning!

Today we celebrated Ashley's 6th Birthday! She had a "magical" party complete with magic show, balloons, a treasure hunt, and of course cake, ice cream and presents. Hannah Montana

We told Addi that we were going to visit Uncle Charlie, Aunt Marsha and Todd in Montana. We later heard her telling people that she was going on vacation. When they would ask her where, she would reply "Hannah Montana". She's never watched Hannah Montana. Well, needless to say, when we arrived in Hannah Montana, this were the accommodations!

Happy 60th Birthday, Grandma Susan!

So it all started the Saturday before the big celebration. Grandma Susan told me that for her 10th birthday her mom got her a Barbie cake with her very first Barbie doll baked inside. So I had this grand idea...wouldn't it be great if I could make a Barbie cake for Grandma Susan's 60th Birthday. (Barbie only turns 50 this year!) So I started researching how to do it...for those who know me well, I don't bake. So after several trips to the store, 5.5 hours in the kitchen, and a little help from Nah.....Here she is!

Thankfully, Maria brought a beautiful Princess Torte from Hoffmans Bakery in Kirkland. I'm not sure that Barbie was edible.

Then it was off to the Dance Party challenge - Starring Papa Brent and Addi Egger!

Next Addi helped Grandma Susan open all of her wonderful gifts. Addi did a great job "just helping" Grandma Susan. She can't wait for her birthday. It's going to be a long 2 months of birthday celebrations before we get to hers!

Last and most entertaining was the final challenge of the night. As it got later, Addi grew more and more tired. She began showing off for an audience...You can't tell that she loves the attention at all, can you? So she started showing everyone what she has learned at gymnastics: summersaults, eggs on a table, kangaroo hops.....and DONKEY KICKS!!! Here's Addi's rendition:

Homeless!

Last night when I got home from work, Matt asked me where the "new friends" came from in our backyard. I had noooooo...idea what he was talking about, so I ventured out in the dark to take a look. Much to my surprise, I found 4 homeless gnomes nesting near one of our stumps. They were neatly placed as if they were yard ornaments that were meant to be there! Apparently they are no longer homeless as they seem quite happy in their new environment!

Today was Addi's first soccer class with Lil' Kickers.

After soccer, Brooke and Addi went to have lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe' and then to Build - a - Bear for a special treat (both Daddys were working). As you can see, the bears got a nice long bath. Addi named her bear "Hot Dog".

After Christmas we spent a few days on the Washington Coast with family and friends. Since it isn't really "red" season on the coast right now, we had to find entertainment for all! This was Addi's first encounter with bowling! Ladies watch out!

Construction Slow Down

Although the construction industry has slowed during the growing pains of our economy, one contractor has remained strong! Handy Manny and his girlfriend, Addi! Yup, that's right...Addi will tell you that her boyfriend is Handy Manny. One of her favorite Christmas gifts was Handy Manny's Toolbox fully equipped with tools. Matt has been trying to teach Addi which tool does what. As you can see, she has caught on quickly. She is assembling her own Christmas gift from Mom and Dad, an art cart. So, although I married Matt so that he could build, assemble and fix things for me, it is apparent that he was soon replaced by my daughter. I thought things took a long time with Matt's timeframe...you should check out Addi's construction schedule!!

Although we were very sad that Ms. Hillary had to leave for China, we are very excited that Addi has adapted quite well to her "nu skoo". She even gets to take her lunch with her name on it!! Tomorrow they will be making pizza for lunch in their Pizza Parlor!

Snohomish Snow 2008

When the snow started falling, it came fast and furious. This was the most snow we have ever seen at one time! As you can see, it was about thigh high on Addi at one point. She couldn't even walk. Despite the paralization of Seattle with a dusting of white, we enjoyed the challenge of leaving our house, the white Christmas, and of course playing with Addi in it! (Although, it was here so long, she got tired of playing outside and at one point chose to stay in to play with her toys!)

Let it SNOW!!!

It finally snowed a good snow tonight! Addi was waiting to go out and play the last couple of days, but it has been too cold! So tonight it snowed about 4 inches in 2 hours, so we let her go outside for a little bit.

She and Daddy build an igloo out of snow blocks. They worked so hard to build it and then Addi smashed it down in a matter of minutes!

We discovered another use for her sand toys.

Fun Weekend of Traditions!

It started with Black Friday! My cousins, Brandie & Krystie, myelf, my mom, sister and even my dad started off the morning at 4:15am in the Walmart parking lot. Much to my surprise the long line that wrapped around the building was quite organized. Addi was snuggled warm in her bed while Ms. Hillary napped on the couch! They were still in their pjs when I got home later that day!

Then Saturday morning was the Annual Christmas tree hunt - followed by breakfast! This year it was raining and muddy. Luckily the trees were perfect! We cut the second tree we looked at - it was record time at the tree farm! Our tree is so large this year, I'm not sure I will be able to reach the top even with a step ladder!!

A 5 Star Week

It all started with a few of her favorite things: Her ipod, snacks, bubble blankee, Dotters, and an airplane ride!Then it was off to work - or help Dadda work building Tai Khungs a ramp for his scooter and a cart for his food!

Addi was working real hard - testing the scooter for Tai Khung and Dadda!Next it was off to the 5 Star Hotel! Thanks Annie for letting us stay at your hotel...Addi LOVED it!

I was working for BMW Honolulu, so look what Addi got for a treat!

The Hotel had a Kids Club where the kids could decorate pumpkins and Trick - or - Treat bags......then they went Trick-or-Treating at all the different departments. Addi was a little leary at first about wearing her costume, but once she figured out that she could get candy wearing it she wouldn't take it off!

Whoa! What a Weekend!

On Saturday, we went to the Harvest Festival at Remlinger Farms with Luke and his Mom. The kids had a blast, even though it was really crowded.

Then on Sunday, we had a bunch of people over to our house for our annual Pumpkin Patch Party. My friend Sarah from highschool was the first to arrive with her new baby, William.

When we got back to our house, we all ate lunch and then the kids, their dads, and Ms. Hillary and Mr. Aaron went outside to paint their pumpkins! They did such a nice job and it was much easier than helping them carve their pumpkins!

We decided this year that the children would be big enough to go through the corn maze. So we picked a Friday night that all the Daddys had off from work, bundled the kiddos up and set out for a muddy, dark adventure.

We are very fortunate to have Ms. Hillary come and play with Addi and "Baby Abby" until she leaves for China! Today was her first day and the girls just love her. This was taken outside. You can't tell, but Ms. Hilliary bundled them all up and took them outside in the pouring down rain to blow bubbles! We tell Addi it's called home schooling!!! We love you Ms. Hillary!

Weekend in Portland, Oregon

Riding the train (Street Car & Mass Transit system) was Addi's ultimate favorite activity this weekend. She and Papa rode it just to see where it went!

Addi met and made friends with Oregons finest, a Policeman. Addi and the Policeman played while the Policeman waited for a table to eat his dinner.

Saturday - I went to a bootcamp at 8am. Addi had gymnastics at 10:30 and a haircut at 12:15 (you can totally tell in the pictures to come). Then we had lunch with Tee Tee (Cousin Krys). Then a quick nap and finally off to watch Tee Tee play ball in Olympia.

Sunday - we started by meeting Uncle Erik, Aunt Julie, and Cousins Ashley and Richie at the Puyallup Fair.

Finally, we decided to play games where everyone wins!

Today after Addi's nap, I took her to Bothell Landing to feed the ducks and play on the playground. This was her first time feeding the ducks. She did pretty well. She even shared her bread with two other toddlers that came over to look at the ducks!

Last night was a surprise Happy Cake Day party for Grandma Wendy at Matt's in Redmond.

Addi was a super good girl all through dinner. Towards the end, Papa Brent and Grandma Susan were playing with her. That was Papa Brent's impromptu sock puppet (a napkin wrapped around his hand). Addi liked playing with "it".

Today was Addi's first day in the Rainbow Room. In the car, on the way to school she was very excited to go to her new classroom and see her old friends - Luke, Hannah, and Abby. When we got there and we went to the new room, she was a little apprehensive and shy.

Evergreen State Fair

When I left for my business trip Tuedsay afternoon, I promised Addi that Dadda and I would take her to the Fair when I got home. School was closed on Friday, so Addi, Dadda, myself and the Andersons (Alyssa (aka B), Mark (aka Hoo Hoo), and Ginger) ventured into Monroe for the Fair. We went in the morning for a little bit, but Hoo Hoo had to work. So we came home for a good nap and then promised Addi we could go back for dinner. That way Hoo Hoo could join us too. Here are some pictures of the highlights of the fair. As you can see the highlights didn't involve any of the things Dadda wanted to do....like look at the vendors, the wood carvers or EAT!

I was sad that I was out of town on Addi's last day as a Dewdrop. But Matt did an exceptional job at capturing it for us. Here is the text that he sent

me so that I could pretend like I was there!

During activity day at school, Addi chose to have her face painted like Dotters, but she wanted a rainbow as well. She will be moving to the Rainbow room this week! We were able to save the rainbow for almost another day, but Dad had to wash the Dotters off for nap that day. Addi was very sad.

This week is Addi's last week as a Dewdrop. She will be moving on to the Rainbow classroom starting in September. We will miss Ms. Hillary and Ms. Tab very much. Addi says they are her very favorite friends at school. However, we look forward to a new and exciting year with Ms. Anita and Ms. Tanya.

Bubbles (my cousin Bran) was here for a short visit this weekend before she heading back to college. Of course Addi wanted to take her to visit the farm! Here they are riding horses and rollercoasters!

Hot Air Balloons!!

Addi has become infatuated with hot air balloons. She often times sees them when we are driving home in the evening. Here is a recent conversation she and I had driving home from Nah-Nah & Papa's house one night.

Addi: Momma ride balloon (she saw two hot air balloons high in the sky. A rainbow colored one and a yellow one with a rainbow on it.)

Momma: Addi those balloons are high, high in the sky. How would we get up there to ride in them?

Addi: We would climb, momma.

Momma: Addi, there are already people riding in the balloon. There won't be room in the basket for us too!

Addi: We take turns, momma.

So at a loss for words we called Daddy at work on the phone and told him that Addi would like to ride in a hot air balloon.

Daddy: When you are bigger, we can talk about riding in a balloon.

Addi: O-tay, Dadda.

Last night we were at the park with Aunt Kim, Cousin Richie and Cousin Ashley and we saw the same two exact balloons. Addi repeated the entire conversation with Aunt Kim. BUT, Aunt Kim actually said she wants to ride in a balloon, so some day when Addi is bigger they have a date to ride a balloon (preferably the yellow one)!

Crabs!

This isn't the first time that we have taken Addi crabbing, but it is the first time we have let her handle them. The ones that she is holding have already been cooked and are awaiting their turn to be cleaned. Addi loves crabbing...it's just a lot of work!

Today was an unusually hot day here in Seattle, so I decided to take Addi out to the park. We went to Willis Tucker today in Snohomish. They have a great big play area, huge sandbox, and spray park. It was so crowded today, that we only stayed for a little bit. But it will definitely be a park that we go back to. It's not too far from our house, which is a major bonus!

I've got Mail!

Addi loves to go to the mailbox each day and check to see if she got mail! I usually give her a piece of junk mail and tell her someone sent her something special! She doesn't like it when I give her postcards though, she prefers to open an actual envelope. Much to her surprise, one day when we went to the mailbox, there was mail for her!

The Farm

This summer we have spent several days at the Farm (Remlinger Farms). Addi loves it so much that we decided to buy season passes this year! The horsey rides are by far her favorite. Followed closely by the boats, train, cars, pumpkins and roller coaster!

Addi just finished her very first session of swimming lessons. She learned how to blow bubbles with her face in the water, use her "scoops" (crawl stroke, but Addi's looks more like the breast stroke), back float, and kick. Some added extras were jumping off the wall, floating on noodles, and playing with pool toys. She is definitely not fearful of water!

Strawberry Festival at the Farm!

One of Addi's favorite things to do this summer is go to the "farm" (Remlinger Farms). We decided to take her to the Strawberry Festival this year to pick strawberries. Of course we picked the hottest day in Washington to do this. It was nearly 90 degrees that day! After 20 long, hot minutes of strawberry hunting, Addi was done! As we were leaving, Addi donated her small amount of strawberries to a little boy who was just starting his adventure. Since the strawberries were sparse and very small, we decided to drive down the road to the Market to purchase a flat of berries so we could make our freezer jam!
